Grandma M’s Chocolate Sauce

My grandma started serving this dessert sauce many years ago, and it became a favorite in our family.

It’s a thick, almost pudding-like, sauce, and we usually serve it warm over white or yellow cake.

Grandma M’s Chocolate Sauce

1-1/2 c sugar
3 c milk
4 rounded T cocoa
2-1/2 rounded T corn starch
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
5 T butter

Combine dry ingredients, being careful to smooth all lumps. Add milk, one cup at a time, stirring well after each addition.

Place on high heat. Stir constantly until sauce thickens & boils.

Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla.

Serve hot over white or yellow cake.
